Buying a new home or selling your home can be stressful enough! Adding moving logistics on top of that can add even more tension! So we're giving you a few moving tips to help make relocating a lot smoother!

Change Your Address

So if you're moving, you may think this is pretty obvious. But you wouldn't believe how this first step gets forgotten. Thanks to modern technology, you can now access USPS online. You can go there and for only $1 you can change your address online from the convenience of your home and on your own time. Or you can go to your local post office and they have a quick application that you can fill out to change your address.

Hire A Moving Company

So I understand a lot of times we want to save money and we decide that we want to just go ahead and move, but it never fails. Every time I have a client who decides to do it themselves, I always get responses like, "Next time I move, I'm definitely hiring a moving company!". Save your back, hire a professional, and get them to do it for you! There also are various services available. Some people don't know that U-Haul and Two Men and a Truck offers the option to just pack the truck for you and you can move it yourself and then they come and unpack the big items. If you don't have the funds to move your whole house, you can just have them move the big furniture.

Transfer/Get Copies Of Your Medical Records/School Records

So when you're in the hustle and bustle of getting the house packed and unpacked, it's easy to forget to transfer your medical records until it's time for you or your children to go to an appointment or enroll in school. It's especially important if you're moving from out of town because then you don't have the flexibility of just driving to the school. You have to call them and get the documents faxed. The school could accidentally fax the wrong paperwork. It could be a whirlwind. And let's not forget the shot records! So do yourself a favor, put it somewhere in your calendar to pick up medical records and school prior to relocating.

Update Your Auto Insurance

Notice we didn't say home insurance. If you're getting a home loan, usually they combine your home insurance in there. But people tend to forget updating their auto insurance the most. You want to be sure to not overlook this tip.

Change Your Driver's License

After moving, you have roughly two months to change your driver's license. I have been an offender of that one myself. This change is a quick fix but very easily overlooked.

Cancel Your Utilities

So you buy the new home, you're ready to close, and you're so excited! But in the midst of your excitement, you forget to turn off your old utilities before moving into your new place. This could result in you getting a bill for a home that you already moved out of two months ago! You definitely don't want that. Make sure that you call the light company, the cable company, the internet, and cancel or transfer your services.
